Lightning Warrior Raidy Review

Lightning Warrior Raidy was a game I anticipated eagerly. It combined two of my favourite things together - RPGs and ecchi. How could that not be awesome?

The main character, Raidy, is a warrior who can use lightning attacks in addition to her sword. She crawls through 3D dungeons and fights in random encounters and gains experience. Her mission is to defeat an evil demon, Cubust, on the top floor of a tower. Raidy is a sexy character with fiery red hair and skimpy armour. I didn't really like her voice actress at first as she sounded too exaggerated but this does make her sound distinct and I eventually warmed to her.

The 'map' on the right corner remains blank until it is found.

Battles will be familiar to anyone who has played a JRPG. It's a turn based system which allows Raidy to attack, defend, flee, use lightning attacks or use potions. Raidy will get new swords and armour and level up but this is all simplified and without any real depth. The enemies are all personifications of various mythical monsters like skeletons, wererats, dragons, salamanders etc. They all look pretty sexy and when defeated their clothes get damaged, giving you a nice view. There's not much tact required to beat each enemy though you might need to get certain items or
information to beat the bosses.

This is what random encounter enemies look like.
After beating her.

There is a boss on each floor who must be defeated to move onwards. Lesbian and S&M themes are strong in the game and most of the bosses are dominatrix types who will humiliate Raidy if she loses. If she beats the boss, the tables are turned and Raidy will give them proper treatment. This is the main source of erotic content in the game. It's a little disappointing. I was expecting a bit more. Each scene is rather short and not very exciting.

Raidy beaten by a boss.

Navigating the tower is another problem. There is no variation to the floor and wall textures for any floor except the last which finally gives the player a new repetitive texture to enjoy. There is no map at the start of each floor. You have to find it. Add invisible doors, fake doors, teleporters and traps which change your direction and you have one of the most frustrating games ever. All you are presented with are x and y coordinates and a compass. The only way to get through this is to manually create a map as you play through the floor. You will have to grind and farm potions off the enemies as there are no stores. You're in the tower from start to finish.

Lightning Warrior Raidy disappoints both as an RPG and as a erogame. I like it when  developers try to create interesting and sexy games but they got it wrong here. It's just not much fun to play and even the ero scenes are a let down.
